Courses

C&EE 1: Civil Engineering and Infrastructure
Examples of infrastructure, its importance, and the manner by which it is designed and constructed. Role of civil engineers in infrastructure development and preservation.

C&EE 121: Design of Foundations and Earth Structures
Design methods for foundations and earth structures. Site investigation, including evaluation of soil properties for design. Design of footings and piles, including stability and settlement calculations. Design of slopes and earth retaining structures.

C&EE 220: Advanced Soil Mechanics
State of stress. Consolidation and settlement analysis. Shear strength of granular and cohesive soils. In situ and laboratory methods for soil property evaluation.

C&EE 225: Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering
Analysis of earthquake-induced ground failure including soil liquefaction, cyclic softening of clays, seismic compression, surface fault rupture, and seismic slope stability. Ground response effects on earthquake ground motions. Soil-structure interaction, including inertial and kinematic interaction and foundation deformations under seismic loading.

C&EE 245: Earthquake Ground Motion Characterization
Analysis of earthquake-induced ground failure, including soil liquefaction, cyclic softening of clays, seismic compression, surface fault rupture, and seismic slope stability. Ground response effects on earthquake ground motions. Soil-structure interaction, including inertial and kinematic interaction and foundation deformations under seismic loading.
