Postdoctoral Scholar Position

The University of California, Los Angeles, seeks a postdoctoral scholar to join their geotechnical group in coordination with the Garrick Institute for Risk Sciences. The candidate will assist with a project titled "Beyond PGA and M: Evaluating optimal intensity measures for soil liquefaction triggering evaluations for the Next Generation Liquefaction (NGL) project". The candidate will:

  1. Compile into the NGL database available laboratory test data involving broadband stress or strain histories
  2. Perform nonlinear effective stress ground response analyses capable of capturing liquefaction effects
  3. Coordinate with the NGL supported modeling team to evaluate alternative intensity measures at NGL sites
  4. Evaluate the relative effectiveness of alternative intensity measures for predicting liquefaction triggering, and contribute to model development
The candidate should be proficient with:
  1. Earthquake ground motion analysis, including ground motion models, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, and ground motion data processing
  2. Ground response analysis and numerical modeling
  3. Data science principles including working with large datasets, feature selection, and nonlinear regression
The appointment is anticipated to start near the beginning of March 2022 or when the position is filled. It will initially be for one year, and may be extended pending availability of funding.
